This schedule of fees and dues is in addition to any amounts charged by the General Society. The Historian collects the Maryland fees and the Treasurer collects the annual dues and other member transactions after election to the Society. Dues, Memberships, and fees may be changed by the Society at any time without notice.
Annual Membership Dues – $50.00 – annual dues are payable by each Annual member of the Maryland Society to the Maryland Society each year in January ($40 if paid by 1 March) beginning at the start of the next calendar year after the application receives final approval. Those who fail to pay their dues are dropped as members of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants in Plymouth and of the Maryland Mayflower Society no later than the end of the dues year.
Life Membership Dues – Life memberships are permanent. They cannot be transferred. Life members wishing to become members of another state society must pay the dues charged by that society. They remain members of the Maryland Society and are then known as dual members. Life members may resign if they wish. Who may apply:
- A Maryland member in good standing may apply to the Historian to become a life member. This application may be made at any time. No filing fee is due to GSMD or to Maryland.
- A minor child of a member in good standing of the Maryland Society may make an initial application for membership in the Society as a junior life member. The filing fee in such a case is the same as that for a child of a member applying for an annual membership: $100.
Life members make a one-time dues payment. It is due either at the time the member asks to change status or at the time the application of a Junior Life Member is sent to Plymouth for final approval. If the Junior Life application be not approved, the dues payment will be reimbursed. The amount of the payment is determined by the age of the applicant and is set out in the following table:
- AGE DUES
- 0 – 29* $1,500
- 30 – 49 $1,100
- 50 – 64 $700
- 65 – 99 $300
- 100 — $0
*0-18 are Junior Life Members
Junior Membership – $50 One-time Fee – Annual Junior members are relatives of Maryland members who are themselves descendants of one of the Pilgrim passengers. Annual junior members are members of the Maryland Society but not of the General Society Plymouth. They cannot vote on matters before the membership. The Maryland Historian has the authority to give final approval to their membership applications. There is a one-time fee of $50 to be a junior member. This fee is due at the time the application is submitted to the Historian. A person may be a junior member until the age of 25. A junior member on attaining the age of 18 may submit an application to become a regular member. This is an initial application and the fees set out above for annual members apply as do the dues.
Junior Life Membership – $100 Filing Fee + $1,500 Membership – Junior Life members are members of the Maryland Society and the General Society. They must be children of Maryland members in good standing. Their application process and fees are the same as those of regular members who are children 18 and over of regular members ($100). The only difference between junior life members and regular members is that the junior life members may not vote at Society meetings until they are 18 at which time they automatically become regular members (without any further fees or dues)
Friends Membership – $50 One-time Fee – Friends are individuals who are not eligible for membership in the Society by descent but nevertheless are bound to us by family ties or shared interests. These persons include spouses of members, persons who are interested in furthering and contributing to the goals of our Society and adopted children of members. Friends of the Society are welcome to participate in the Society’s activities and in its committees, but they cannot vote on matters before the Society. Their applications are submitted by members and approved by the Historian.
Membership Reinstatement Dues & Fee – $100 + Membership Dues -Upon request, the Historian may reinstate a member whose membership has lapsed or who has resigned. The Historian may not reinstate a member whose membership has been revoked for cause as specified in section 6(b) without the agreement of the Board of Assistants.
